Etienne Charles Performs San Jose Suite

Etienne Charles, associate professor, College of Music, discusses his research on jazz, music culture, Caribbean influence on jazz, and the importance of music in the post-colonial New World. He extensively studied three cities named San Jose – Costa Rica, Trinidad, and the United States – to better understand the effects of Spanish colonialism on Africans and indigenous peoples.
