Faculty Position in Biomedical Imaging
The Department of Computational Mathematics, Science and Engineering (CMSE) and the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) at Michigan State University invite applications for two tenure-system faculty positions in the broad area of biomedical imaging with a joint appointment in the two departments.
Michigan State University has created a bold new initiative and launched two new departments, CMSE and BME, who together are bridging scientific disciplines. CMSE seeks to create an interdisciplinary environment that fosters a new breed of algorithmists who will address emergent problems in science and engineering, setting the stage for computation to be on the same footing as experiment and theory in its role in scientific discovery. BME is housed in the new Institute of Quantitative Health Sciences and Engineering (IQ) and has a strong core of imaging scientists who work collaboratively across broad disciplines including: neuroengineering, motion analytics, developmental biology, system biology, synthetic biology, regenerative medicine, chemical biology and biomedical devices with an aim for clinical translation.
Candidates must have earned a PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biology or related field, with expertise in Biomedical Imaging. The position will be filled at Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor level depending on the qualifications and record of the successful candidate. The candidate is expected to establish a sustainable research program, make significant scholarly contributions to their discipline, be an effective teacher and mentor of both undergraduate and graduate students, and engage in institutional and professional service.
The search committee seeks exceptional candidates who develop novel algorithmic and computational techniques for biomedical imaging, who are interested across a range of scales from nano to macro. These can range from classical image processing to the use of SERS-based imaging modalities and may include modeling protein/genetic engineering, developing methods for neuroimaging, super-resolution imaging of cells to understand structure and mechanics, addressing challenges in crvo-EM tomography, developing optoacoustic tools, and generating novel probes and contrast agents for imaging.
