MSU to offer chemistry laboratory courses in Midland this summer

In summer 2017, Michigan State University will offer three different, credit-bearing chemistry lab courses in its facility at 1910 W. St. Andrews Road, Midland, Mich. Free on-site parking is available.

CEM 161, Chemistry Laboratory I, will be offered in Summer Session One, on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 2:00 p.m. to 4:50 p.m., May 16 through June 29. The course deals with experiments in general chemistry; stoichiometry, calorimetry, electrochemistry, molecular geometry, gas laws, kinetics, acids and bases, and inorganic chemistry. (1 credit)

CEM 162, Chemistry Laboratory II, will be offered in Summer Session Two, on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 2:00 p.m. to 4:50 p.m., July 6 through August 17. The course covers analytical and inorganic chemistry; redox and acid base titrations; spectrophotometric and gravimetric analysis; preparation and analysis of coordination complexes of nickel, iron, and cobalt. (1 credit)

CEM 255, Organic Chemistry Laboratory, will be offered twice:  In Summer Session One, May 16 through June 29, and again in Summer Session Two, July 6 through August 17. Both offerings will be on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons, with a lecture from 1:00 p.m. to 1:50 p.m. and a lab session from 2:00 p.m. to 4:50 p.m. each day. The course involves preparation and qualitative analysis of organic compounds. (2 credits)

Current MSU students may enroll as usual; the Midland sections of the three courses are listed in the Schedule of Courses at https://schedule.msu.edu . Individuals not currently matriculating at MSU may register for the classes through MSU Lifelong Education.
