Dan Grooms, professor and chair of the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, has been appointed to the USDA Secretary’s Advisory Committee on Animal Health, or SACAH, by Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.

The committee advises Vilsack on matters of animal health and broader issues of public concern.

Providing outside perspectives on department strategies, policies and programs to prevent, control and/or eradicate animal health diseases, the committee also leads broader dialogue on public health concerns and the stability of the livestock economies.

SACAH members represent a broad spectrum of agricultural interests from among the animal health community and include, for example, animal welfare advocates; local and commercial livestock producers; small and minority farmers; and State and Tribal animal health officials.

Committee members have been appointed through June 14, 2017.
