Faculty Position in Solar and Renewable Energy Systems
The Department of Mechanical Engineering in the College of Engineering at Michigan State University invites applications for a tenure-system faculty position in the area of solar and renewable energy systems. Candidates must have an earned doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. The position will be filled at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level depending on the qualifications and record of the successful candidate. Candidates are expected to establish a sustainable research program, make significant scholarly contributions to their discipline, be an effective teacher and mentor of both undergraduate and graduate students, and engage in institutional and professional service.
A strong background in solar and renewable energy is desired, with applications related, but not limited, to concentrating solar power, integration of solar power with energy storage, solar gasification, solar thermochemical cycles for fuels and storage, novel thermochemical reactive materials, solar photochemical processes, solar photovoltaic efficiency, materials and devices, renewable fuel production, hybrid solar/renewable systems, and solar spectrum splitting applications.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop an externally funded interdisciplinary research program of national prominence that includes fundamental and applied research, publication in journals and high quality conferences, and education of graduate students. Candidates must have demonstrated evidence of outstanding research accomplishments, teaching skills, and ability to work effectively with other researchers.
Excellent opportunities exist within the departments, college, and university for collaboration with other faculty. The Mechanical Engineering Department currently has 42 faculty members with a strong commitment to research, teaching, and service and is on a growth trajectory. The department is home to the Energy and Automotive Research Laboratory (EARL) and has affiliations with other laboratories and centers within MSU. Research and Education focus areas include Solid Mechanics, Design, and Manufacturing, Dynamics and Controls, Fluid-Thermal Science and Engineering, and Biomechanics.
