MSU Online Graduate Programs Rank Among Highest in the Nation

In its 2021 ranking for online graduate programs, U.S. News & World Report ranked three of Michigan State University’s online graduate programs in the top 25, including two at No. 2.

“The past year has underscored for many people the importance of high-quality online education options,” said MSU President Samuel L. Stanley Jr., M.D. “Michigan State is proud to offer highly regarded online and hybrid programs that accommodate the lives of our students, and I’m pleased these rankings recognize their excellence.”

MSU offers 40 online/hybrid graduate degree programs, 37 online/hybrid graduate certificate programs and one undergraduate completion program.

“MSU is among the world’s best in providing accessible curriculum for students pursuing advanced degrees,” said Thomas Jeitschko, a professor of economics who serves as the associate provost for graduate education and dean of the Graduate School. “These rankings are evidence of institutional excellence and our students’ potential as they take their degrees into the wider world.”

MSU’s online graduate program in education maintained its No. 4 position — the highest placement the program has earned to date.

In specific disciplinary rankings, both curriculum and instruction as well as educational administration and supervision programs are ranked No. 2. The educational/instructional media design program improved three positions from last year and now ranks No. 7. The College of Education also is ranked No. 2 in the nation for online master’s programs for veterans.

MSU’s online graduate program in criminal justice received its highest ranking to date, improving five places to No. 5 in the nation. The program also achieved a new high in the ranking of criminal justice master’s programs for veterans, ranked at No. 3.

MSU’s online graduate program in business is ranked No. 21 in the nation, making this the fifth consecutive year the Eli Broad College of Business ranked in the top 25. MSU also is ranked No. 11 in online business programs for veterans.
