MSU Student, Alumna Named Finalists for Marshall and Rhodes Scholarships
MSU’s two finalists for the Marshall Scholarship are Anna Esenther and Emily Steffke.
Esenther and Steffke are also finalists for the Rhodes Scholarship. Both will be interviewed for the scholarships from November 15-23, 2019.
Esenther is a 2019 MSU graduate and Honors College graduate with degrees in economics, psychology and history in the College of Social Science, a degree in education in the College of Education, and a degree in statistics in the College of Natural Science.
She is currently a first grade teacher at Inca Elementary in Buckeye, Arizona.
Steffke is an Honors College senior majoring in neuroscience in the College of Natural Science and English in the College of Arts and Letters. She is currently an undergraduate researcher at MSU’s Institute for Quantitative Health Science and Engineering. Learn more about Steffke’s research in this short video.
Steffke is the co-founder and president for Reach Outside, an MSU service organization that plans events for MSU students to volunteer with underprivileged children in the Lansing area to help them experience a variety of outdoor sports. Steffke was named a Goldwater Scholar in 2019.
The Marshall Commission provides support to approximately 50 of the most outstanding undergraduates in the country to study at any university in the United Kingdom.
The Rhodes Trust, the oldest of the major international competitive award foundations, provides 32 of the most outstanding undergraduates in the country an opportunity to study at the University of Oxford in England.
The National and International Fellowship and Scholarship office at MSU, administered by the Honors College, helps interested undergraduate and graduate students to pursue major national and international opportunities by providing information and direct support throughout the competitive application processes.
