Honoring Excellence

Michigan State University conducts world-class research and creative activity, ranking as one of the top research universities globally. MSU research excellence has been recognized through institutional membership in the American Association of Universities (AAU) since 1964.

The university attracts and welcomes an international community of outstanding graduate students, postdoctoral associates, and faculty visitors to a broad range of highly ranked graduate programs, research centers, and interdisciplinary collaborations.

National and international faculty awards are an important component of institutional reputation. Each year, Michigan State University faculty members earn a variety of honors for their scholarly contributions. Some receive prizes and awards from learned societies or government agencies for specific work or career contributions.

Digital Humanities and Literary Cognition Lab Receives Mellon Grant

“Creativity in the Time of COVID-19: Art as Medicine,” a four-year project that began in January 2021 at Michigan State University’s College of Arts and Letters received support from a $3 million grant from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

Xie Named American Psychological Association Fellow

Michigan State University scholar Kui Xie was named a Fellow of the American Psychological Association. The designation recognizes Xie for his contributions to the field of psychology.

Sneller Awarded NSF Grant for Linguistics

Michigan State University researcher and Assistant Professor of linguistics Betsy Sneller was awarded $646,385 from the U.S. National Science Foundation, or NSF, to expand educational opportunities for students as part of the MI Diaries linguistics research project.

Shipp Awarded Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Equity Scholars for Action Grant

Gayle Shipp, assistant professor in the Charles Stewart Mott Department of Public Health, has been awarded a prestigious grant from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Health Equity Scholars for Action.

Gould Receives Distinguished Scholar Award

Dan Gould, a Michigan State University professor emeritus and a globally recognized scholar, has received the North American Society for the Psychology of Sport and Physical Activity Distinguished Scholar Award.

Rose Honored for Career Protecting Public Health

Michigan State University water microbiologist Joan Rose was honored for her lifetime of water research with the International Water Association Global Water Award. She was recognized Aug. 10 at the IWA World Water Conference in Toronto, Canada.

Naghibolhosseini Receives 2023 Young Investigator Award from Sigma Xi

Naghibolhosseini is the recipient of the 2023 Young Investigator Award from Sigma Xi, an international scientific research honor society. Her work was recently featured in the journal American Scientist.

Hegg Recommended as Dean of MSU’s College of Natural Science

Eric Hegg has been recommended to serve as the next dean of Michigan State University’s College of Natural Science effective Sept. 1, 2024.
