Research and Innovation Seeking Senior Fellow for Research Infrastructure
The Michigan State University Office for Research and Innovation (ORI) invites applications for a new position, the Senior Fellow for Research Infrastructure (SFRI). This will be a 2-year, 50% position for a tenured faculty member at MSU, preferably at the rank of Full Professor. The SFRI will carry out an in-depth assessment of MSU’s core facilities, and associated research equipment and infrastructure including funding, space, personnel, and lifecycles, and will then lead a strategic planning process that will produce a white paper recommending how to best organize, oversee and invest in core facilities, research equipment and other infrastructure to advance MSU research.
This is a unique opportunity for an MSU faculty member to gain university-level administrative experience and to become a core member of ORI’s leadership team, reporting to and working closely with AVP Kay Connelly. The ideal candidate will have prior leadership experience at the department or college level and have an interest in exploring a university administrative position in a supportive environment. The SFRI will need strong collaborative skills and be able to work with a variety of stakeholders to assess current equipment and future needs. Experience with shared research infrastructure, MSU research equipment/cores, and/or strategic planning is desired, but not required. Successful candidates will be committed to diversity, equity and inclusion and recognize the importance of DEI considerations when making resource allocations. The SFRI needs to be a creative and strategic thinker as the results of this assignment will significantly impact MSU’s strategic investments in research equipment for years to come.
