MSU's Congressionally Directed Funding Policy

Michigan State University supports competitive peer review as the primary and best means to distribute federal research funds. As such, MSU will only seek congressionally directed funding if the criteria laid out in the policy is met.

University Use of Uncrewed Aerial and Submersible Vehicles "Drones" (Drone Policy)

Michigan State University has implemented a comprehensive policy to regulate the use and operation of uncrewed aerial vehicles (UAVs) and uncrewed submersible vehicles (USVs), commonly known as drones, for research, service, extension, outreach, and various support functions including land and facilities management. This policy ensures the safe and legal operation of UAV and USV technology, addressing federal regulations, export controls, security concerns, and compliance with institutional responsibilities. It outlines procedures for the acquisition of UAVs and USVs, operational requirements, administrative oversight, and coordination with relevant university offices and external agencies to maintain up-to-date operational standards. This initiative reflects MSU's commitment to leveraging drone technology responsibly and productively within the legal and ethical frameworks.
