Overview

In 2017, the MacArthur Foundation challenged the world to dream large, announcing a global competition, 100&Change, to solve a critical problem affecting people, places, or the planet. In 2018, the Foundation awarded $100 million to Sesame Workshop and the International Rescue Committee to educate children displaced by conflict and persecution in the Middle East. Additionally, MacArthur decided to award additional $15 million grants to three competition finalists: Catholic Relief Services, HarvestPlus, and Rice 360° Institute for Global Health (Rice University) to further advance their work. MacArthur Foundation is expected to announce a second competition in the first quarter of 2019, building upon what they learned from the inaugural competition.

It is important to note that the MacArthur Foundation funding under 100&Change is not intended to provide primary support for basic or applied research; rather the Foundation places a high priority on approaches with demonstrated success that will scale and could move a solution to a significant problem from ideation to implementation. It is also critical that the project authentically engages stakeholders in the communities the solution will benefit.

MSU intends to select one proposal for submission to the 100&Change program. What critical problem could you address with $100 million?

Presentation

Please join us on Monday, February 11, from 1 to 3:00 PM at the MSU Innovation Center, for a meeting at which we will introduce 100&Change, explain the attributes of a competitive initiative and application, provide feedback from MSU’s prior submission, and describe the MSU process for moving forward once the RFP is issued. Please register your attendance below.
