The Office of Research and Innovation hosted an AI Networking Event and Poster Session at the MSU Union with the goal of bringing together MSU faculty, postdocs, and graduate students who are using AI in their research, or as a focus of their research. Additionally, this event introduced members of the MSU research community who are not working with AI to ways to use this dynamic technological tool.
Artificial intelligence is transforming industries, and when AI is used as an influential part or topic of research, there are many starting points and countless tangents created. Perhaps one of the many exciting aspects of utilizing AI in research is how it facilitates collaboration across disciplines, leading to exciting new areas of discovery and opportunity. From generative AI use in language and image analysis, to predictive modeling and simulations, data analysis and discoveries in healthcare, many fields of study are demonstrating ways to use AI to further their disciplines.
In addition to a variety of research posters, this event featured a feedback area where attendees could provide comments about AI at MSU, including what MSU is doing well or not well, and what kinds of resources the MSU community needs when it comes to using AI.
Reaction to the event was positive and reinforced the desire for more AI networking and research opportunities. Future events and other options for those interested in how to use AI at MSU are still being developed and will be available starting in 2024.
