New System Launches to Capture Undergraduate Research Experiences
Increasing the numbers of undergraduates in research and scholarly pursuits with faculty mentors is an important goal of the MSU 2030 Strategic Plan, and a high impact practice that is shown to increase student retention.
The Undergraduate Research Experience (URE) module collects information about the research, scholarship, and creativity activities that undergraduates at Michigan State University are engaging in. While this data ultimately ends up on a student-centered document – the SER – the data collected is used by both faculty and administrators to create a comprehensive view of the undergraduate research activities at MSU across the entire campus.
Faculty and staff can use the URE platform to keep a running record of students they have worked with during their employment at MSU. Every faculty or staff member with a valid MSU NetID who is actively employed by the university has access to the URE module.
Students should input their experiences from outside the classroom into the URE, and faculty will receive a notification to approve the entry.
