MSU Receives AAALAC Full Accreditation

Jul 05, 2023

MSU recently received full accreditation from the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC).

2002 marked the first year that MSU achieved AAALAC accreditation in biomedical research, and later became one of the first land grant institutions to receive campus-wide accreditation starting in 2006. The accreditation process is conducted every three years and consists of several components including an onsite visit.

Thank you to everyone who contributed their time and expertise to the AAALAC accreditation preparation and site visit. This assessment provides an important opportunity for us to ensure we are running a top animal care and use program and enhances our research excellence.
Douglas A. Gage, Vice President for Research and Innovation

This accreditation is prestigious among universities and federal funding agencies and MSU is among more than 1,050 companies, universities, hospitals, government agencies and other research institutions in 50 countries/regions that have earned AAALAC accreditation, demonstrating their commitment to responsible animal care and use.

These institutions choose to participate in AAALAC's rigorous program, in addition to complying with all applicable local and national laws that regulate animal research. AAALAC International is a private, nonprofit organization that promotes the humane treatment of animals in science through voluntary accreditation and assessment programs.
