Colleagues,
Interim Vice President for Research & Innovation Douglas Gage and Dr. Paul Hunt today are jointly announcing Hunt’s resignation as Senior Associate Vice President within MSU’s Research & Innovation unit.
The long-term financial impacts of the ongoing pandemic have compelled us to examine ways to create efficiencies throughout our unit so that we may position MSU’s extensive research apparatus for fiscal stability and continued success to benefit Spartans, Michigan residents, the nation, and the world now and well into the future. To best support the research mission, we are restructuring our administrative organization to maximize resources for the short and long term. That restructuring includes a redistribution of the functions of the senior associate vice president organization, led by Dr. Paul Hunt, into other units of the Vice President for Research & Innovation organization.
“Dr. Paul Hunt has decided to resign as Senior Associate Vice President, begin his consultantship year, and will retire from the university next year,” said Interim Vice President Gage. “Dr. Hunt has served as a faculty member in the Department of Chemistry since 1979. He has been an incredible leader within the MSU community and a valued member of our team. We appreciate his decades of dedication and many contributions to the University, including his leadership of Libraries and Computing, intellectual property management, the creation of the University Research Organization (URO) and Bioeconomy Institute and oversight of Export Control and Trade Sanction regulatory enforcement, among other achievements.”
“Facilitating both a predictable staffing pattern and the long-term contributions of those who will take the institution into the post-pandemic future strikes me as important,” said Dr. Hunt. “It has been an honor and a privilege to serve Michigan State University, and I owe immense thanks to many outstanding colleagues in multiple units.”
We appreciate your patience as we work through this structural change and welcome any questions you may have. Please do not hesitate to reach out to Jamie Flanagan, vprappts@msu.edu to schedule a time to meet with Interim Vice President Gage.
Douglas A. Gage
