Faculty from several different colleges converged at the Wharton Center recently for the AI and Education Research Mixer. With recent developments in generative AI, five faculty from the Colleges of Education and Natural Science presented a series of flash talks that explore ways AI can enhance learning environments and education research. Dwayne Ray Cormier, Founder and CEO of Culturally Responsive Solutions, LLC, joined the panel of MSU faculty and gave a flash that explored the impact innovations in AI generate in education from both a research and entrepreneurial perspective. Following the flash talks was a productive Q&A session, with a networking reception wrapping up the event. Remarks acknowledging the dynamic landscape of AI and MSU’s leadership in education were also made by Vice President of Research and Innovation, Doug Gage, Dean of the College of Education, Jerlando Jackson, and Dean of the College of Natural Science, Phil Duxbury. Joe Krajcik, Director of the CREATE for STEM Institute, served as moderator.

As an institution dedicated to the science of learning, MSU recognizes the importance of staying at the forefront of AI and machine learning advancements. This event demonstrated the MSU community has an appetite to learn more about this exciting tool, with high interest prompting an early close to registration. Future events to learn more about the research potential of generative AI and machine learning will bring faculty together to keep pushing MSU forward as a leader in this emerging space.
