Memo from Joseph Salem Jr., Ph.D., Dean of Libraries
Dear Colleagues,
Please help us celebrate MSU faculty scholarship! For the last twenty-two years the MSU Libraries have recognized current and retired faculty and staff who have authored, edited, or translated (or co-authored, etc.) a book, monographic electronic resource or musical work during the previous year. This recognition will occur at a reception with President Stanley and Provost Woodruff sponsored by the MSU Libraries. In addition, a copy of a print work is added to the MSU Faculty Book Collection, which is prominently located in the Main Library, when available.
Although our subject liaison librarians work diligently to identify all MSU faculty who published in calendar year 2020, changes in scholarly communication, the publishing industry, and the formats that support scholarship mean that we must rely on all of you to help us make our recognition as complete as possible. We look forward to recognizing:
• Commercially published monographic print works authored, edited, or translated by MSU faculty/staff
• First and second editions of a work
• University press imprints
• Electronic monographic formats and musical works, including “ebooks,” CDs, and DVDs
• Other monographic works of scholarly import published with editorial, peer review
We respectfully request your help in forwarding this message to your faculty and asking them to notify us by completing this form as soon as possible for any 2020 and 2021 publications: https://lib.msu.edu/facultybookcollection/.
Although we applaud the scholarship involved in producing articles and chapters in books, we regret we cannot acknowledge them at the reception.
The Faculty Authors Reception is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, September 30, 2021, 3:00-5:00 PM at the MSU Main Library. Traditionally, the reception has been held in the spring; we hope this change to fall will allow us to gather in person and in the future to better accommodate busy faculty schedules.
Thank you to all who have already responded. Please share within your networks.
