The Office of Research and Innovation is pleased to announce that 10 faculty have been selected to participate in the inaugural Academy for Developing Visionary Institutes and Centers of Excellence (ADVICE) career development incubator.
ADVICE was designed to support mid- to senior-level faculty in constructing a center-level vision for team science at scale and positioning themselves for successful extramural center-level funding opportunities. The cohort will focus on developing a compelling vision, attracting a strong team, and working with national agencies to align the vision with national priorities.
Andrew Christlieb, an MSU Research Foundation Professor in the Department of Computational Mathematics, Science and Engineering, has received center awards in the past and will facilitate this cohort. Participants will be expected to read, assess, and provide feedback on their colleagues' ideas as part of the process, thus honing and improving the content.
"Expanding large, team-based science is an important objective in growing the research enterprise and providing more opportunities for collaborative scholarship. Importantly, you cannot wait for an agency call for proposals to construct a vision and put together a team. If you start then, you are already too late.” said Kay Connelly, associate vice president for Research and Innovation. “Our office is committed to helping our researchers move their ideas to reality and this program will guide them through the preparatory work required for successful center-level grants.”
Faculty were selected through a competitive process with 23 applications submitted by faculty from 12 different colleges. The cohort participants are:
