The 2022 Times Higher Education World University Rankings placed Michigan State University in the top 6% of global universities – and No. 35 among U.S. institutions.
MSU is No. 93 among 1,662 institutions ranked across 99 countries, an improvement of 12 places in 2021 and ahead of several competitive peers – including one in the Ivy League.
“It is exciting to see Michigan State’s excellence once again recognized with a high rank among higher education peers across the world,” said MSU President Samuel L. Stanley Jr., M.D. “Our placement on this ranking is the result of our faculty and students’ dedication to research, which I see as a direct reflection of MSU’s commitment to excellence – for which I am very proud.”
Times Higher Education World University Rankings, established in 2004, are one of the four major global rankings. Its methodology consists of 13 metrics across five categories: teaching, research, citations, knowledge transfer and international outlook. MSU’s new global ranking reflects its improvement on seven of the 13 variables.
