MSU’s newest research facility, the Interdisciplinary Science and Technology Building (ISTB), will open this month and researchers from several buildings across campus will be moving in over the course of the fall semester.

The new facility is part of the Strategic Academic Development Initiative to provide modern teaching and interdisciplinary research space necessary to support significant growth in STEM-related fields.

The ISTB, which focuses on research, is also necessary to support the University's investment in the Global Impact Initiative to recruit more than 100 new faculty investigators.

Space in the building will not be assigned to academic departments, but instead allocated to groups of faculty with aligned research interests. Neuroscience, Precision Health, Reproductive and Developmental Sciences, and Computational Genomics are a few of the primary groups that will be conducting research there. The faculty in ISTB will maintain their affiliation with their academic departments.

The building was designed and constructed to emulate the Grand Rapids Research Center, and construction was completed in less than two years. Congratulations to everyone involved in this project!
