Outreach and Engagement Selected to Participate in ARIS Broader Impacts Toolkit Community of Practice Program

Jul 27, 2022

Michigan State University has been selected to participate in the Broader Impacts Toolkit Community of Practice, led by the Center for Advancing Research Impact in Society (ARIS). The purpose of this community of practice is to better understand how institutions support the development and facilitation of broader impacts (BI) plans and the tools they use to do so. The ARIS Broader Impacts Toolkit consists of a BI Wizard, a BI statement checklist, Guiding Principles for Effective BI Statements, and a BI project evaluation rubric. Over the three years of the project, MSU will pilot test the tools, and collect case studies on how we use the toolkit and other resources to build BI plans. Case studies will be published in a special issue of the Journal of Community Engagement and Scholarship. Through its participation in the Toolkit community of practice, MSU will improve its ability to support researchers in developing winning BI plans and achieving beneficial societal impacts through their research.
