Dr. Kay Connelly is an MSU Research Foundation Professor in Computer Science & Engineering, and an Associate Vice President for Research & Innovation at Michigan State University (MSU). Her portfolio includes oversight of centers and institutes, shared research infrastructure, research development, the Global Impact Initiative and Tetrad programs. Prior to joining MSU in 2023, she was a Provost Professor and the interim Associate Vice President for Research Development at Indiana University (IU). She was the Associate Dean for Research as the Luddy School of Informatics, Computing, and Engineering at IU from 2018-2022.
Dr. Connelly’s research focuses on pervasive and mobile computing technologies to empower both the ill and the healthy to manage and improve their own health and make healthy choices. Technologies of interest include smart homes, novel displays of everyday information, wearable devices and mobile applications. Dr. Connelly has a particular interest in helping low socio-economic status populations and how to ensure technology meets their needs. Dr. Connelly has published over 90 peer-reviewed conference and journal papers. She has been PI or Co-PI on over $5M in research grants from the NSF and NIH. She has directed centers and internal university initiatives worth over $17M. Dr. Connelly received her MS (1999) and PhD (2003) in Computer Science from the University of Illinois – Champaign/Urbana. She received her BS in Computer Science and Mathematics from Indiana University-Bloomington (1995).
