Celebrating the 2025 Postdoctoral Excellence Awardees at MSU
Michigan State University proudly recognizes two exceptional postdoctoral scholars for their outstanding contributions to research. Selected through a highly competitive nomination and peer-review process, Dr. Miguel Chirivi, Ph.D., D.V.M., and Dr. Ajmir Khan, Ph.D., were honored with the 2025 Postdoctoral Excellence in Research Awards (PERA).
Out of 25 highly competitive applicants, two individuals were selected for their outstanding achievements in research. The awardees and their respective departments were formally recognized during a recent ceremony.

2025 Postdoctoral Excellence in Research Award (PERA) recipients:
Dr. Miguel Chirivi, Ph.D., D.V.M., is a Postdoc with the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences, working with Professor Andres Contreras. His research focuses on the biology of adipose tissue and its role in metabolic adaptation and disease in dairy cows. He has numerous publications and awards for his work and actively contributes to training and teaching at MSU.

Dr. Ajmir Khan, Ph.D., is a Postdoc with the School of Packaging, working with Associate Professor Muhammad Rabnawaz on some truly groundbreaking projects. His highly impactful research focuses on the development of sustainable materials and technologies, and has over 15 patents and dozens of publications. He has worked closely with the MSU Innovation Center on commercialization of various technologies, and has mentored MSU graduate and undergraduate students in various contexts.
