Training Webinar: Python on the HPCC

Michigan State University’s Institute for Cyber-Enabled Research (ICER) is hosting the Fall 2025 Python on the High-Performance Computing Center (HPCC) webinar. This non-credit training webinar provides a hands-on introduction to the tools for using Python for research computing on ICER’s HPCC. Participants need an active HPCC account to access the HPCC. Prerequisites for Meaningful Participation

  • Active ICER HPCC account
  • Basic understanding of the HPCC resource environment and the SLURM scheduler
  • Basic competency with Python and GNU/Linux Operating Systems

Learning Objectives

  • Understand Python modules on the HPCC
  • Understand Python user environments on the HPCC
  • Use the OnDemand web portal to launch a Jupyter Notebook on the HPCC
  • Perform basic profiling of Python code
  • Understand basic vectorization in NumPy
  • Use Numba to parallelize a loop
