Vision Statement

The vision of Trifecta is to enhance the strengths of the joint faculty and staff of the Colleges of Communication Arts and Sciences, Engineering, and Nursing at MSU to become a national leader for innovative solutions to improve health care, outcomes, and disparities. This will be done using a fourfold approach: (1) create a common forum for discussion, (2) facilitate cross-college collaboration and clear the way for simpler cross-college administration, (3) identify both government and industry partners for collaborative projects, and (4) secure federal and industry funding to advance research on technology and health. 

Mission Statement

Trifecta will become a visible, vibrant intersection of faculty, student, and industry partners working collaboratively to develop technology needed to reduce costs and improve health outcomes across diverse communities. These collaborations will be the basis of research programs aimed at developing technological solutions to major health challenges and testing their effectiveness in targeted communities. Trifecta will connect facutly, students, and business and industry partners to secure funding for researach related to the intersection of technology and health. 

Pilot Funding

In an effort to stimulate new or emerging interdisciplinary research collaborations between faculty in the colleges of Communication Arts and Sciences, Engineering, and Nursing at MSU, pilot funding is available to help create innovative, interdisciplinary research projects that will lead to increased:

• Applications and successes in external funding
• Presentations and publications
• Visibility for Trifecta at MSU

Focus Areas

Broad areas of research that utilize strengths in communication, engineering, and nursing are present and hold promise for the future success of Trifecta. Main focus areas include:

• Large-scale data systems for detection, prevention, surveillance, and diagnostics
• Information and communication technologies for self-care management
• e-Interventions to impact health behaviors and improve health outcomes
• Nanotechnology-based biosensors
• Mobile health (mHealth)

Trifecta Initiative Advisory Board

The Trifecta Initiative Advisory Board meets multiple times each semester to advise on the deliberate use of resources and to guide events to foster the mission. We share information about current research projects, develop partnerships for upcoming grant submissions, and plan our calendar of informational programming and events.
