Subject: Update on Executive Orders and Federal Funding
Dear Colleagues,
University leadership is closely monitoring the recent announcement from HHS/NIH and evaluating any impact to the research enterprise at MSU. The pause in communications from HHS/NIH is scheduled through February 1, 2025. We are also aware that the executive orders may impact other funding agencies.
The Office of Research and Innovation is participating in conversations with our partners at the Big Ten, AAU, APLU and COGR to obtain more insights into these administrative changes, while our colleagues in MSU Government Relations are proactively engaged at the federal level.
While the recent announcements have raised many concerns and questions, it is not uncommon for new administrations to pause select activities during the transition period while they work to align their programs and onboard new agency leadership.
Our team in Sponsored Programs is developing a web page to post updates and pertinent information related to financial and administrative impacts to federally sponsored programs. Please visit Federal Updates Resulting From Administration Transition early next week. That site will include a process for faculty to submit communications they have received related to federal requirements, though if Office of Sponsored Programs and/or Contract and Grant Administration were already copied on the communication, forwarding it through the new process is not expected.
If you have additional questions related to a proposal or project, please contact OSPHelp@msu.edu (for pre-award) or help@cga.msu.edu (for post-award).
Please share this with your faculty and units. Our office will be communicating additional information as it becomes available.
Thank you for your patience during this time.
