Overview
Established in Fall 2022, the university awards the title "Red Cedar Distinguished Professor" to selected current and new faculty to assist MSU in recruitment, recognition, and retention of outstanding faculty at all academic ranks, with the primary aim of enhancing the stature of the institution in research and creative activity. Successful candidates tend to be associate and full professors, though more senior assistant professors about to go up for tenure may also be successful.
There are two tracks for this award:
- Research-intensive track, for which the candidate must combine externally recognized, exemplary scholarly accomplishment with clear professional relevance to specific areas of MSU scholarly need, disciplinary development, or research or creative emphasis. This track should also demonstrate research leadership in their discipline.
- Balanced track, for which the candidate must demonstrate proof of excellence in research, teaching and service.
Requests for this title are made by a college Dean and approved by the Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, and the Vice President for Research and Innovation. Once submitted, the form below will be routed to the Office of Research and Innovation.
