Updated DoD/DoW §1260H List

Dear Colleagues,

I’m writing to provide an update to the guidance that was shared earlier this Spring regarding use of prohibited equipment on Department of Defense/War (DoD/DoW) funded research.

Update
On June 8, 2026, DoD/DoW updated the Section 1260H list of "Chinese military companies operating in the United States," adding approximately 188 new entities (See abbreviated list below).  Similar to restrictions in previous years involving Huawei telecommunications equipment, the Section1260H prohibitions apply to both new and previously purchased equipment that is being used on DoD/DoW funded research. Researchers will need to transition away from using Section 1260H listed companies, technologies, services, and equipment.

What MSU Federally funded Researchers Need to Know
If you:
  • are currently funded by DoD/DoW,
  • plan to pursue DoD/DoW funding in the future, or
  • expect to extend, renew, or submit future DoD/DoW proposals

You will need to transition away from equipment and services provided by Section 1260H list entities.  You should seek alternative sources of technologies, services, and equipment not included on this list. For questions, please contact researchsecurity@msu.edu

MSU’s Research Security Program and central office units across campus will continue to proactively screen for restricted entities, and your purchases through MSU Procurement will continue to be screened.  We also review equipment purchased with DoD/DoW funds, and if an issue is identified, we contact researchers directly to discuss appropriate next steps.

Abbreviated lists are provided below for your awareness. Please note that these lists are not comprehensive.  MSU’s Research Security Program can provide additional information on the complete Section 1260H list and run screening for researchers if needed.
