The American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) is a membership association of professionals employed around the world in academia, government, and private industry who are dedicated to the humane care and treatment of laboratory animals, as well as the quality research that leads to scientific gains that benefit people and animals. AALAS provides educational materials to laboratory animal care professionals and researchers, administers certification programs for laboratory animal technicians and managers, publishes scholarly journals, supports laboratory animal science research, and serves as the premier forum for the exchange of information and expertise in the care and use of laboratory animals. The Diagnostic Center for Population and Animal Health (DCPAH; pronounced dee-cee-paw) is a full-service veterinary diagnostic laboratory offering more than 800 tests in 11 service sections. In the more than 30 years since its inception, DCPAH has become one of the country's premier veterinary diagnostic laboratories, handling more than 220,000 cases involving approximately 1.5 million tests annually. DCPAH recently had a name change and is called Veterinary Diagnostic Lab.

The Biomedical and Health Institutional Review Board (BIRB) is one of three IRB committees on the Michigan State University East Lansing campus. Michigan State University’s IRBs were established to advance the goal of conducting research with diligence and integrity. The purpose of the committee is to protect the rights, welfare and privacy of human subjects who participate in research conducted by students and/or faculty affiliated with MSU. Applications submitted to the BIRB generally encompass medical, biological, and health research and can be medically invasive or medically non-invasive.
